Bluetooth connectivity of solar panel charge controllers enhances the user experience. by providing a convenient way to wirelessly monitor, configure, and control your solar power system using a mobile app on your smartphone or tablet. This feature allows for greater flexibility and ease of use in managing your renewable energy setup. In this blog, we will discuss the two common charge controllers sold at SanTan Solar, EPEVER Tracer Series and Victron SmartSolar charge controllers.

EPEVER offers Bluetooth communication modules that allow you to wirelessly monitor and control your solar charge controller using a smartphone or tablet. There have been several versions offered including EPEVER BLE-RJ45-D, EPEVER BLE-RJ45-A, and the older eBox-BLE-01. These modules provide a convenient way to access real-time data and adjust settings without the need for a wired connection. At SanTan Solar we currently carry the EPEVER BLE-RJ45-A Bluetooth module.

Key Features of the EPEVER Bluetooth Modules:
  1. Bluetooth Connectivity: The Bluetooth modules provided by EPEVER allow you to connect your smartphone or tablet to your solar charge controller by using Bluetooth technology. This enables you to access information and configure settings remotely, up to 10 meters (33 feet).
  2. Monitoring and Control: With the Bluetooth module installed, you can use a dedicated mobile app (EPEVER Pair) provided by EPEVER to monitor various parameters of your solar system. This can include data like solar panel voltage, battery state of charge, load current, and more. You may also be able to adjust the charge settings and load control parameters through the app. This app can be used for all Bluetooth devices including the eBox-BLE-01 (which has been discontinued).
  3. Compatibility: EPEVER offers different Bluetooth modules that are compatible with specific models of their solar charge controllers. These modules are usually designed to connect to the RJ45 or RJ46 communication port on the charge controller.
  4. User Interface: The mobile app interface is designed to be user-friendly and easy to navigate, providing you with a visual representation of your solar system's performance and settings.

Always refer to the manufacturer's documentation for accurate and detailed information and operation of their products. Here is a link for the latest software from EPEVER: https://www.epever.com/support/softwares/

The Victron SmartSolar charge controller is a solar charge controller designed to efficiently manage and regulate the charging of batteries in a solar power system. One of its key features is Bluetooth connectivity, which allows you to monitor and control the charge controller using a mobile app on your smartphone or tablet. The Victron charge controller does not require any special adapter as Bluetooth is built into the controller.

Victron offers a mobile app called VictronConnect that is available for both Android and iOS devices. This app is used to communicate with the SmartSolar charge controller via Bluetooth. The app can be downloaded from this link: https://www.victronenergy.com/support-and-downloads/software

Once the charge controller is paired with your mobile device, you can use the VictronConnect app to monitor and control various aspects of your solar power system including:

Real-Time Data: You can view real-time information about your solar panel's performance, battery status, charging current, voltage, and more.

Configuration: The app often allows you to configure and customize the charge controller settings, such as charge profiles, battery types, and load control.

Historical Data: You can access historical data and logs to track the performance of your solar power system over time.

Firmware Updates: Some charge controllers can receive firmware updates through the app, ensuring your system stays up to date with the latest features and optimizations.

The Bluetooth connectivity feature also enables remote monitoring of your solar power system. This means you can check on the performance of your system and make adjustments even when you're not physically present at the installation site, which can be particularly useful for off-grid or remote installations. VictronConnect typically offers a user-friendly interface with graphs and intuitive controls, making it easy for users to understand and manage their solar power system.
