It is possible to have different types or brands of solar panels in the same solar array, but there are some important considerations to keep in mind:

1. **Electrical Compatibility:** Different solar panels may have different electrical characteristics, such as voltage and current output. To ensure proper operation and maximum efficiency, it's important to make sure that the different panels are electrically compatible. This can be achieved through the use of appropriate inverters and electrical configurations. As per the predetermined rule of formulae, the same *voltage* should be connected in *parallel*, whereas the same *current* should be connected in *series*. Configuration of the mixed array is crucial as efficiency loss is possible.
2. **Similar Efficiency: **Ideally, the solar panels in the same array should have similar efficiency ratings. You can mix solar panels that have different wattages, but it is not usually advised because mixing different wattage panels reduced the efficiency and power output. If you mix highly effecienct panels with less efficient ones, the overall performance of the array may be limited by the lower-performing panels.
3. **Age and Degradation: **If you are adding new panels to an existing solar array, the older panels may have experienced *some degradation in performance over time*. Newer panels may have a different degradation rate, which could affect the overall performance of the array.
4. **Aesthetics: **Different solar panels may have different sizes, colors and appearances. Mixing panels with varying aesthetics may not be visually appealing, so consider the overall look of your solar array if aesthetics is important to you.
5. **Warranty and Maintenance: **Be aware that mixing different types or brands of panels may complicate warranty and maintenance issues. Manufactures typically have specific warranty terms and conditions, and these may vary between panels.
     - At SanTan Solar, we have a 1 year warranty on all of our used panels!
6. **Consult with a Professional: ** It's highly recommended to consult with a solar installation professional or engineer who can assess your specific situation. They can offer guidance on whether mixing difference solar panels is feasible and if there is an optimal choice for your particular circumstances.

###### As seen in the examples below, there is a wattage loss for every configuration:

In summary, while it is possible to mix different solar panels in the same array, it should be done with careful consideration of configuration, compatibility, efficiency, aesthetics and long-term maintenance. Consulting with a professional is often the best way to ensure that your solar array operates effecitively and efficiently with mixed panels.
